Hello Friends & Singers,
Â
I was talking with a friend (who is a singer) last week about some music I've been working on for an upcoming concert. And she said to me:Â "What's there to sing about? The world is a mess..."
Â
I couldn't disagree with her about the world. But I think that when times are really bad, we
need to find the energy to keep singing - hard as it may be. So
I created a short video about how I keep singing, even at the worst of times.Â
Â
It's true that I am fortunate. I don't live in a war torn place. I have enough food on the table and enough friendship to support me. Still, like many others, I feel the heavy weight of the awful things that are going on around us. And sometimes, even though I am paid to sing & teach, I find it a struggle to keep that musical light burning. Here are
3 things I do to carry on.
Â
------------------------------------------
Last Week' Video:
The third video in my
"How do I practice?" series is about 3 specific ways that you can
sound more unique.
1. Head voice peak "moments"
2. Yodeling (Sarah McLaughlan)
3. Varying your chest voice sounds
Â
I believe that all of us have abilities that we simply have not explored... YET. And these things CAN give us a more distinctive sound, with a little work.
Â
When you find something unusual that you LIKE to do and/or you WANT to with your voice, your singing life changes!!! You feel more motivated. Your songs have more lustre and you feel more like practicing. No small thing!
Â
So take a look at this brief video. This one is more about showing you some possibilities, rather than actually teaching you how to do them. I give you ideas and a couple of examples.Â
So it's brief and fun, I hope! (7:30)
Â

Â
As always, I wish you great singing!

P.S. QUESTION!
If you and I could have coffee together, is there something about singing that you would like to discuss? If so, please send me a message. We may not have that cup of coffee, but I can create a video and mention you (or not!) as the motivation for the theme. barbara@barbaralewis.com
