Hello, - First, a few words about age. Many moons ago, I was teaching singing at Concordia University in Montreal. One of my students was a very promising singer. She came to a lesson one day and announced that since she had just turned 24, she was thinking seriously about quitting singing. I asked her why and she said that Madonna was already a big star at 24, so she felt that it was over for her. Eventually this young woman did continue to sing, but she was quite serious at the time: at a certain point, one could no longer sing. I realized then that age does not matter much when it comes to singing. Even 15-year-olds might feel too old these days because there are 9-year-olds who are already touching "stardom." There really is no end to the potential punishment of these false comparisons.
I believe that if you have something to say through music and you can find an audience who enjoys how you say it, then age is of little consequence. Your audience might be people who come to hear you sing in a choir or those who love to attend house concerts. You may sing in big concert halls and stadiums or in cozy retirement homes. It matters not. We have seen that some well-known singers can continue to perform well into their 80's, if they are in good health and spirit. If you have a song in your heart and the desire to put in the time and effort it takes to let your voice soar, I encourage you to sing! There is no other art like singing for lifting the spirits, juicing up the energy and warming up a sometimes-lonely soul. Just sing. NEED SOME HELP?
