"Oh no, I have a
sore throat...."
How often has
it happened to you that you realize, with alarm, that you have something
happening in your throat - and it is not good?
As I promised last week, I have recorded my own personal warm up that I use to test my own voice when I have a sore throat, to see if I can sing without danger or if I must cancel performances, lessons, etc.
You can access the video through the above
article.

The exercises that I use are good for all voice types. But you must find notes that work in your own range. And over time, you will find exercises that work even better for your voice and unique temperament.
I had a real throat last week - so I used this ritual of exercises to test my voice. I discovered that my vocal cords were getting even more sore and flemmy as I warmed up. So I stopped singing. As it turns out, I could not sing for a whole week. So what you hear on the video is my first attempt at singing after a week of vocal rest due to a nasty sore throat.
MY "Sore throat" VOCAL WARM
UP - A FEW RULES
My approach is simple: Sing quietly, in an easy
range using vowels
like "EE" - to begin with - that will tell you quickly if your vocal
cords can vibrate with ease. Work without panic or fear. Listen carefully.
Do not over-sing. Sip warm water. Take plenty of rest periods.
